About Us

Our community

The Town of Danforth, located in Washington County, nicknamed “The Sunrise County”, in the State of Maine, is the northernmost town in the most eastern county in the USA.

Incorporated on March 17, 1860, Danforth is a close-knit hub community servicing a 25 mile radius for a tri-county region; southern Aroostook County, northern Penobscot, and northeastern Washington County.

Local businesses include campgrounds, grocery store, restaurants, auto service & fueling stations, local farms, lodging, laundromat, library, hardware store, driving range, bank, health center, and post office.   East Grand School, a large part of the community, hosts schooling from the Pre-Kindergarten grade up to grade 12.

Danforth is bordered on the east by East Grand Lake, separating the United States from Canada. On the west, by Upper and Lower Hot Brook Lakes. Each of these lakes are prime spots for fishing, boating, camping, and other leisurely activities, as well as viewing the stunning landscape that surrounds Danforth. Within Danforth and surrounding areas are ATV and snowmobile trails, hiking trails, and the Baskahegan River and Dam which is an excellent river to fish, canoe, and bird watch.

Union Hall, also known as Town Hall, is a historical landmark in the center of town. Its construction was completed in 1888 and is one of the many long standing buildings still in use in Danforth. It serves as a community center of many sorts, where events and activities often take place. A large clock tower sits atop the Hall and has been maintained by the Day family for more than 60 years. The bell in the tower chimes at each hour. The upper story of the Hall is owned by the Masonic and Odd Fellow Lodges, the bottom story is owned by the Town of Danforth.

Danforth is a small and growing community, welcoming new residents, tourists, and businesses from all areas; a small piece of paradise in the vast Northern Maine Woods.
